After five days of nonstop rain, the Gandak River in Bihar spilled its banks early on Sunday morning. Villages in the Saran district were flooded in a matter of hours. Houses were carried away. They damaged fields. Families sought refuge by scaling rooftops and trees.
For more than five years, the Jeevika Foundation, our nonprofit, has been active in these villages. More than 150 families are currently stranded without food, safe drinking water, or shelter. Babies are wailing because they are hungry. The elderly lie in the open, vulnerable to infection, cold, and terror.
We're collecting ₹10 lakh to pay for:
- Kits for emergency food (rice, dal, salt, and oil)
Tarpaulin tents and makeshift shelters
Pure drinking water
Mosquito nets and basic medical assistance
This is an urgent and crucial appeal. We already have relief workers on the ground. Funding is currently required in order to expand our assistance and provide relief to every family within the next 72 hours.
